Designing for winter light
· 1 min read

Face the big rooms south
The rooms you use most during the day go on the south side, with the largest windows. Bedrooms and storage can take the north.
Get the overhang right
A roof overhang sized for your latitude shades the glass in July and lets the low winter sun all the way in. We check every one with a sun study before it is drawn.
Pale floors, warm walls
Light bounces. A pale wood floor carries winter sun deep into a room, and warm white walls keep it from feeling cold.
