Our story

Cooked slowly, on purpose.

Saltbox Kitchen is a small kitchen with a big grill. Here is how we got here.

From a corner store to a kitchen

Chef Marisol Vega opened Saltbox in 2014 in an old corner store, with one oven and a lot of cast iron.

We still cook almost everything over oak, buy from farms we can drive to, and keep the menu short so it stays good.

Ten years on, most of the team has been here for more than five of them. Come say hello at the pass.

What we care about

  • Cooked over oak

Almost everything touches the fire. It is slower, and it tastes better.

  • Bought close to home

Meat, produce and dairy from farms within a two hour drive.

  • Priced for regulars

We want you back on a Tuesday, not just on your birthday.

Who we buy from

  • Hill Country Pastures
  • Green Gate Farm
  • Texas Gulf Fish Co.
  • Mill Creek Dairy
  • Barton Springs Bakery
