Aftercare
Heal it right
A tattoo is only as good as how it heals. Here is how we usually suggest looking after it. Your artist may give you slightly different steps for your piece, and theirs come first.
Day by day
- 01
Leave the wrap on
Keep the wrap or film on for as long as your artist told you. For a clear film, that is usually a few days.
- 02
Wash gently
Wash your hands first, then rinse the tattoo with lukewarm water and a mild, unscented soap. Pat it dry with a clean paper towel.
- 03
Moisturize lightly
A thin layer of the unscented aftercare balm or lotion your artist suggests, two or three times a day. Less is more.
- 04
Let it flake
Some peeling and itching is normal. Don't pick or scratch it. Let the flakes come off on their own.
- 05
Protect it from sun
Keep it covered and out of direct sun while it heals. Once it has healed, sunscreen keeps the lines crisp for years.
While it heals
Give these a miss
- Swimming pools, hot tubs, the sea and baths for at least two weeks
- Tight clothes rubbing on the tattoo
- Picking, scratching or shaving over it
- Scented lotions and petroleum jelly
