Everyday illness
Is it a cold or the flu?
· 1 min read
Colds and flu are both caused by viruses, but they feel quite different, and the flu can be more serious.
The difference
- A cold comes on slowly, with a runny nose, sneezing and a sore throat. Most people keep going.
- The flu comes on fast, often with fever, aches and deep tiredness. Most people go to bed.
What helps at home
Rest, plenty of fluids and fever medicine if you need it. Antibiotics don't help with viruses.
When to call us
- A fever that lasts more than three days
