Every app draws cards a little differently, so treat these as close previews. After you publish, run the page through each platform's own debugger to clear old cached cards.

Questions

Things people ask me.

What are Open Graph tags?

They are meta tags that tell Facebook, LinkedIn, iMessage, Slack and most other apps which title, description and image to show when someone shares your link. Without them, apps guess, and the guess is usually a logo or nothing at all.

What size should my share image be?

Use 1200 by 630 pixels. That ratio works on Facebook, LinkedIn and X. Keep the file under 1 MB and keep important text away from the edges, since some apps crop a little.

Why is my old image still showing when I share the link?

Apps cache link previews. After you update your tags, run the page through the Facebook Sharing Debugger or LinkedIn Post Inspector to refresh it. X refreshes on its own within a few days.

Do meta tags help my Google ranking?

The title tag matters a lot. The meta description does not change rankings directly, but a good one gets more clicks, and more clicks is the whole point. Open Graph tags are about shares, not rankings.
