Module 6 · Your content

Set up headless WordPress

Run WordPress just for writing, connect it with WPGraphQL, and keep it out of Google.

8 min

"Headless" means WordPress is only the place you write. Nobody visits the WordPress site itself. Your Next.js site asks WordPress for the posts and shows them in your design. You get the WordPress editor without its slow pages and plugin sprawl on your public site.

What the site reads from WordPress. For each published post: the title, slug, excerpt, dates, the first category, the featured image with its alt text, and the content. Set up your categories now under Posts, then Categories, with a few broad topics. Delete or rename "Uncategorized" so a post never shows that word.
